Masters in Children Rights and Childhood Studies in Poland, Warsaw

The MA program is led by the Chair in Social Pedagogy and the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair at the Institute of Education. The MA is to be overseen by the UNESCO Janusz Korczak Chair which aims to become an international research centre of excellence on social pedagogy, democracy in practice and the philosophy of Janusz Korczak. Post-graduate students are invited to join this developing international network of research with active and engaged scholars and practitioners.

This internationally focussed MA will examine current social theories and practices within globally diverse childhoods as compared against the historical and contemporary understanding of human rights. Gaining the contemporary and historical understandings of children, childhood and child rights, students will engage with international academics, researchers and practitioners to critically explore policy, project outcomes, case studies and innovative projects in order to develop their own critical leadership in working with children and young people to change society.

The MA program bridges theoretical knowledge and practical experience to enhance student’s professional knowledge, leadership and research skills, creativity and network for co-operation and collaboration. Gaining an understanding of how to use available resources within a sustainable, rights-based framework prepares graduates to consolidate a global outlook with grassroots approaches. Collaborating with national and international institutions for project implementation and management within different countries provides graduates with the necessary leadership and project management skills for career development and guiding institutional reform.

The Maria Grzegorzewska University established in 1922 is a university of 100-year-old teaching tradition. We are a publicly funded university, accredited by the Polish Ministry of Science and Education under the Bologna Process Agreement. Among its biggest assets are highly qualified international staff, diverse programs of study and good conditions of studying. We provide a range of varied study opportunities including acquisition of respectful jobs which are highly demanded in the job market. Nowadays, we have approximately 4,500 students enrolled in both full-time and part-time study programmes. In addition, the University offers various postgraduate programmes which provide complementary qualifications in general and special education, as well as in other fields of social life.

At the University we also have the Janusz Korczak UNESCO Chair in Social Pedagogy, the priorities of which are humanities and social sciences. The UNESCO Chair undertakes actions, which respond to the challenges of the modern world defined by Sustainable Development Goals. The UNESCO Chair Team conducts the interdisciplinary research programs, participates in conferences, seminars, debates, study visits (in Poland and abroad) and, since 2006, organizes the International Summer Schools for young academics, PhD Students and practitioners whose activities are connected with children development and well-being issues.

We also have a doctoral school, which may be the next step for the graduates of the Masters in Children’s Rights and Childhood Studies. Furthermore, we participate in the Erasmus+ exchange program.
