Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) is one of the best and largest medical universities in Poland with 90 years of academic experience and with great potential for development. Our University is a leading medical school in Poland. It is a major educational, research and clinical center. Clinical teaching and research are mainly based on cooperation with 6 clinical hospitals. Altogether, there are more than 8200 students studying currently at the University, among which there are 1008 students of the English Language Programs.

About school

The University continuously seeks to develop learning process and teaching techniques. Therefore, it broadens the cooperation with foreign institutions and universities in terms of joint research, joint participation in international programs and research projects as well as in joint publications and scientific conferences, exchange of students and teachers. PUMS cooperates with many foreign institutions from the whole world.

In 1991, the University introduced programs in English, starting in 1993 with the 4-year M.D. Program based entirely on the American curriculum and the requirements of the U.S.M.L.E. system. A 6-year M.D. Program in English based on the Polish/European model followed this a year later. Subsequently, PUMS reached the last of its planned English-language based projects with the introduction of a 5-year Dentistry Program in 2000, and 5-year M.Sc. Pharmacy Program in 2004, which was replaced by the 6-year Pharm.D. Program in 2009, and 3-year B.Sc. Physiotherapy Program in 2009. These programs meet the European requirements.

The University is well equipped for research in basic medical sciences clinical investigations, diagnosis and treatment.

Teaching and research are mainly based on co-operation with 5 Clinical Hospitals (2216 beds in total) as well as on other city hospitals. Since 1950, the University has awarded its degrees to 13,283 physicians, 4,610 dentists and 5,541 pharmacists. Master of Science degrees have been conferred on 404 medical analysts and 1,307 nurses.

In its various postgraduate programs, the University has awarded 2,628 Ph.D. degrees*. The university's highly advanced postdoctoral programmes have resulted in 461 habilitations (Dr hab.) awarded in the same period.

Every year faculty members participate in no fewer than 400 international congresses and conferences. The University hosts between 5 and 10 major international congresses a year and visits of foreign researchers are a daily routine.

Admission

Candidates to English Language Programs will only be accepted by the University of Medical Sciences if they:

  1. Obtain a high school diploma or matriculation equivalent at a high enough standard to enable them to enter a university medical school in their own country.
  2. Possess at high level, an adequate knowledge of the subjects studied namely: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and English. This will be checked during the enrolment process.
  3. Pass the entrance INTERVIEW.
  4. Are of other than Polish citizenship (but may be ethnically Polish or hold dual nationality)

Documents required (in English unless otherwise stated):
1) Completed application form - original.
2) Medical Health Certificate (including chest X-ray report), completed by a doctor - original or a copy certified by a notary public
For Applicants to the 3-year B.Sc. Physiotherapy Program:
3) Official high school/college transcript - an original or a copy certified by a notary public and, if applicable, a certified translation to English.
4) CONCERNS 6MD, 5DDS, PHYSIOTHERAPY AND PHARMD PROGRAMS - High school diploma - original or a copy certified by a notary public and, if applicable, a certified translation to English
4a) CONCERNS 4MD PROGRAM - College Diploma (at least Bachelor Degree) - original or a copy certified by a notary public and, if applicable, a certified translation to English
5) Written proof of English proficiency for candidates who have not completed their education in the English language (possible documents: any English proficiency standardized test, e.g. TOEFL passed at the following levels: Internet-based test: 75 points., Computer-based test: 203 points, Paper-based test: 537 points, or written confirmation from school about candidates' proficiency in English) - original or a copy certified by a notary public.
6) A photocopy of valid passport.
7) 6 recent passport-size (3.5 x 4.5 cm) photographs signed on the back (no head cover).
8) Two letters of recommendation on school letterhead: from a science faculty member or from guidance, counselor principal or teacher of another subject - original or a copy certified by a notary public.
9) ***CONCERNS 6MD, 5DDS, PHYSIOTHERAPY AND PHARMD PROGRAMS - one of the following standardized tests results taken no earlier than in 2009 - official document in original required or a copy certified by a notary public:
a) SAT (min. score of 1300 points)
b) ACT (min. composite score of 23 points).
9a) CONCERNS 4MD PROGRAM - one of the following standardized tests results taken no earlier than in 2009 - official document in original required or a copy certified by a notary public:
a) MCAT (min. score of 22 points)
b) GAMSAT (min. weighted mean score from I, II and III sections of 45 points; with min. of 40 points from each section)
c) UKCAT (min. score of 2300 points)

*** Applicants to the 6-year M.D. Program,. 5-year D.D.S. Program. 6-year Pharm.D. Program and 3-year Physiotherapy Program who do not have the above mentioned score reports are required to take an internal one-best-answer test (8 questions from Biology, 8 questions from Physics and 8 questions from Chemistry) during interview. The testing time is 30 minutes.

All candidates are required to submit (after being admitted to one of the programs) the following documents:

  1. A copy of vaccination records, showing if Hep. B and TB shots were taken. Proof of health insurance valid in Poland (e.g. EHIC for European citizens). 3) A copy of student visa or other document confirming that the stay in Poland is legal (with originals to show to the Dean's Office worker).
